Colony Flow Beginner's Guide: 10 Tips Before Level 20

Colony Flow looks like a casual tapper, but every fail traces back to the same mistake: loading a color the ants can't reach. Here are the ten habits that carry you through the first twenty levels without spending a single booster.

1. Trust the white ring

Cubes with a white highlight ring have at least one reachable tile of their color right now. A cube without the ring is a dead weight in your slot — it will sit there doing nothing until other colors clear a path. Early on, simply never tapping un-ringed cubes is enough to win.

2. Eat from the bottom up

Ants enter from the dirt below the picture, so bottom-row tiles are always reachable. Colors concentrated near the bottom edge are safe openers; colors that only appear in the top half need the board opened up first.

3. Keep one slot free

A full set of slots is the only way to lose. Treat your fifth slot as an emergency lane: if filling it wouldn't leave at least one working color, don't fill it.

4. Big cubes first, small cubes to finish

A 16-cube parked early keeps eating for the whole level as its color opens up. Small 3–5 cubes are perfect for mopping up a color's last few tiles without blocking a slot for long.

5. Watch the numbers count down

The number on a slot cube is how many tiles it still owes. When it hits zero the slot frees itself. If a number hasn't moved in a while, its color is blocked — plan around it.

6. Use 2x speed

The ▶▶ toggle only speeds up animation, never outcomes. Faster feedback means faster learning.

7. Learn the booster unlocks

You get two of each for free. Don't spend them before level 20 — you won't need to.

• Level 3 — Extra Slot (+1 slot, max 7)
• Level 4 — Shuffle (rearranges the tray)
• Level 6 — Pick Up (returns a slot cube to the tray)
• Level 9 — Vacuum (clears one entire color)

8. Save coins early

You start with 80 coins. Boosters cost 40–60, and win rewards are small at first (12–15 coins). The shop matters around level 40, not level 4.

9. Go for 3 stars from the start

Booster-free wins pay +8 bonus coins and roll a 55% chance of a free booster. The 3-star discipline early builds the booster stockpile you'll want later.
